IN TWAIN WE TRUST

January brings with it a time for many anew. This year not only are we seeing a few exceptional, one of a kind items being released for the Year of the Monkey, but we are also privileged to see in our lifetime two coins to honor a man who did as much for the literary world as he did to spark inspiration in others for travel and the outdoors through his love of adventure and experience, Mark Twain.

Images released of the coins reveal striking portraits of Twain, himself and characters from his beloved classics such as, “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court”, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”, and of course, Huck and Jim from, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn”.

Each coin will be available beginning after the New Year in gold and silver. The Mark Twain coin is set to release on Jan 14, 2016 while the National Park Service coin will follow shortly on March 24, 2016. As always, the items will be available in very limited supply- 100,000 gold coins and 350,000 silver coins will remain on the market throughout 2016 or until they are sold out, as per U.S. Mint spokesman Mike White.

While face value is set at $5 for gold and $1 for silver, mandated surcharges will still remain instated for $35/gold and $10/silver piece, and will be certainly be watched with interest by those who want to buy gold and rare coins in Seattle, WA.

The anticipated windfall from sales will benefit, evenly, UC Berkeley for a program to study and promote the legacy of Mark Twain, Elmira College, The Mark Twain House and Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, and the Mark Twain Boyhood Home and Museum in Twain’s childhood home of Hannibal, Missouri.

Each entity to benefit is hopeful to receive upwards of $1 million.
