Spidey Sense Says Spider-Man Coin Is Super Hot

Spider Man Coin 580x360 (1)

Imagine this. Mysterio has taken control of the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia. What’s worse, Mary Jane Watson is trapped inside with him! Just when all hope is lost, Spider-Man appears to apprehend Mysterio, saving the Mint, and more importantly, Mary Jane. This is the type of scenario that has kept Spider-Man fans enthralled for half a century. And to commemorate this milestone, the Niue Islands believed that Spider-Man deserved a coin. But you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to see the cool tribute they produced.

Bellevue Rare Coins has got their hands on an official Spider-Man coin. The coin was minted in 2013 and celebrates 50 years of Spider-Man. And what a 50 years it has been!

Created by the famous writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Spider-Man is one of the most universally loved superheroes. Marvel Comics debuted his character in the comic book, Amazing Fantasy #15 in August 1962. Since then, Spider-Man has gone on to star in his own series, The Amazing Spider-Man, and in three feature films. Peter Parker, who is Spider-Man’s alter ego, went from a teenager to a grown man as the series progressed. Parker was, in fact, the first teen to ever appear in a comic as the hero. Now, in addition to the many comics and movies, Spider-Man has his very own coin. And you can see one in Bellevue!

Unlike the fairly common Canadian Superman coin, only 5,000 Spider-Man coins were minted. One ounce of silver, the bullion coin’s denomination is set at $2. The coins feature an accurately colored rendering of Spider-Man on the obverse. The reverse is not colored, and features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth.

Encased in a collectable Spider-Man box, the coin comes with an individual serial numbered certificate of authenticity, and a cool, 50th-anniversary Spider-Man coin trading card. And Bellevue Rare Coins has got the whole package. So if you’re a coin and comic lover, come in and check out this exceptionally rare coin.
