Presidents Day is a special day celebrated by our nation to remember our fearless leaders and their valiant efforts while taking on the most powerful and influential position in the free world.
Since 1792, the United States Mint has been producing timeless, beautifully crafted coins and currency. Each one tells a story of our nation’s history from the time in which they were produced or reflect on pivotal moments from the past.
For the last few years, The Mint has struck Presidential $1 Coins to honor our leaders. Beginning with George Washington, the coins have been issued in the order in which each American President has served and feature a portrait of each respective President on the obverse. In 2016, the set was complete upon the release of the Richard M. Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Ronald Reagan.
Coins issued in 2007 and 2008, include the edge inscription of “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, along with the Mint mark “P”, “D”, “S”. Moving forward in 2009, “IN GOD WE TRUST” was relocated to the coins’ obverse while the Mint mark and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” remain on the edge.
Lady Liberty herself is found residing on the reverse of each Presidential coin. Her image the most appropriate to be depicted alongside each of the American Presidents, as she is a steadfast symbol of what our great nation stands for; a symbol of friendship, hope, and endless possibility for a better life. Her image can also be found on the obverse of the American Eagle.
