$2 Million Treasure Hidden in Rocky Mountains

forrest fenn treasure 580x360 (1)

Summer is coming. Which means barbeques, beaches, camping, and, if you’re lucky, grand adventure. This summer, people all over the country will head to the Rocky Mountains. Some will come to hike, some to whitewater raft, some to mountain bike, and some in search of fortune. That’s because millionaire Forrest Fenn has hidden a box full of gold coins, gemstones and jewelry somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. Fenn has also written a book of clues, enticing treasure hunters from ¬¬¬around the world. But so far, all the searching has been in vain.

Fenn hid the treasure years ago after beating cancer and getting a new lease on life. He wrote a book of clues as to the treasure’s whereabouts, which was released in 2010. Included in the book is a poem, which serves as a tantalizing treasure map of sorts.

“Begin it where warm waters halt / And take it in the canyon down, / Not far, but too far to walk. / Put in below the home of Brown. / From there it’s no place for the meek, / The end is ever drawing nigh;” the poem reads.

“There’ll be no paddle up your creek, / Just heavy loads and water high. If you’ve been wise and found the blaze, / Look quickly down, your quest to cease.”

With plenty of clues to string the treasure hunters along, it’s no wonder so many people still search for the carefully hidden treasure. It’s not the poetry that sustains the motion, however. It’s the treasure, which is magnificent.

Stored in a 10” x 10” wood box are 265 gold American Eagles and Double Eagles, gold nuggets, antique jewelry, and an assortment of emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. Fenn explained why he made the loot so appealing.

“I wanted the monetary value to be a consideration for those who are looking for it, but mostly my motive was to get kids off the couch and away from their texting machines and out in the mountains,” he said.

The treasure is estimated to be worth $2 million. So there’s no question some eager treasure hunters will be out searching this summer. And who knows? They just might find it.
