The Mexican 50 Peso gold coin, also known as the “Centenario,” celebrates Mexico’s independence from Spain. The obverse is adorned with an “Angel of Independence” holding a laurel wreath for victory, and a broken chain symbolizing freedom. The Mexican 50 Peso is twenty percent larger than the American Gold Eagle bullion coin. First minted in 1921, the Mexican 50 Peso has the same gold purity as popular pre-1933 U.S. gold coins such as the Saint-Gaudens, but its lower premium offers investors the opportunity to own a stunning piece of history for less.
